Democritus University of Thrace spin-off company “act4energy” participated in the “Film Seed Festival” in Tinos (https://www.hypercomf.com/fsf-about), which was organized by the artists group HYPERCOMF in collaboration with the Onassis Foundation. The “Film Seed Festival” was held under the auspices of the S+T+ARTS initiative of the European Commission with the aim of highlighting good practices for achieving ecological and economic resilience in small rural communities. In particular, at the beginning of the festival, an agricultural field was planted with Arachis Hypogea (peanut cultivation). Crop development was supported by smart farming technologies to minimize water consumption. The peanuts were used to produce nutritious snacks for the participants and turned into biodiesel to generate electricity for the festival. The production of biodiesel from peanut oil took place at a pilot-scale facility designed and constructed by act4energy at the Democritus University of Thrace.
