The environmental awareness awards ECOPOLIS (http://www.oikopolisawards.gr/) aim to contribute to the promotion and recognition of the increased and proven environmental sensitivity of state bodies, local government, private businesses, scientific and research institutions as well as media services. The ECOPOLIS 2017 award for business was awarded to “Apostolos Papadopoulos MEATCOMPANY” for the support of environmental research. The collaboration with act4energy co-founders (Vasileios Diamantis, Alexandros Eftaxias) led to the implementation of an integrated facility for the treatment of high-oil and grease rendering wastes. The project included study, design and construction of an industrial prototype for anaerobic digestion of thermal pre-treated animal by-products. The generated biogas was used to cover the thermal needs of the treatment facility.
